Their latest \u201cPower Onward\u201d episode, \u201c10 Seconds to Save a Life\u201d, is a masterclass in emotional manipulation. Cue the soft piano, the solemn voiceover, and the close-up of a surgeon\u2019s hands. Because nothing says heroism like flogging diesel generators in a hospital setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They call it \u201cthe invisible lifeline\u201d. The only invisible thing here is accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the same Cummins that just paid a $1.675 billion fine for emissions cheating. The same \u201cglobal power leader\u201d that has been spewing nitrogen oxides and soot for decades while claiming to \u201cpower a cleaner world\u201d. Now they want applause for keeping the lights on in an ICU. You know, the same ICU their exhaust fumes might send you to in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They talk about \u201cresilience\u201d and \u201csustainability\u201d like they\u2019re interchangeable. What they really mean is \u201cdiesel wrapped in marketing\u201d. Backup power, sure. But powered by the same dirty stuff that keeps kids coughing and cities choking. Cummins slapped the word \u201cmicrogrid\u201d on it and called it innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWithin 10 seconds, we can save a life\u201d, they say. Within 10 seconds, they can also belch enough exhaust to give an asthmatic a panic attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The video runs for 20 minutes. No one is watching that. Not even the poor apprentice who uploaded it. It\u2019s a glossy montage of diesel engines shot like a perfume ad, complete with stock footage of nurses and sunlight through windows. The only thing missing is a tagline: \u201cCummins \u2013 because every breath counts, even the polluted ones\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If this were really about saving lives, they\u2019d be talking about electrification, clean grids, and getting off fossil fuels. But there\u2019s no profit in that yet, so it\u2019s diesel forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hospitals need backup power, yes.
